Acerca de

El ostrero de South Island es un ostrero endémico de Nueva Zelanda, principalmente de la Isla Sur. Tiene partes superiores negras, partes inferiores blancas, pico anaranjado-rojo y ojos rojos. Mide unos 45-48 cm. Habita en playas, estuarios y riberas de ríos de la Isla Sur. Se alimenta de moluscos, crustáceos y gusanos. Su población ha disminuido y está considerado en peligro de extinción en Nueva Zelanda.
