Acerca de

El ostrero euroasiático (unos 550 g) es inconfundible por su llamativo plumaje negro y blanco y su largo pico rojo de punta plana. A pesar de su nombre, no se alimenta solo de ostras, sino también de mejillones, lapas y lombrices. Tiene técnicas especializadas para abrir bivalvos: unos individuos usan el pico como palanca, otros lo clavan directamente. Las crías aprenden la técnica de sus padres, lo que da lugar a 'tradiciones culturales' locales. Sus llamadas son agudas y penetrantes.
