El ostrero del Magallanes habita en las costas rocosas del sur de América del Sur, incluyendo las Islas Falkland y la Patagonia. Bicolor con partes superiores negras y partes inferiores blancas. El pico rojo brillante es largo y robusto. Se alimenta de mejillones, lapas y otros invertebrados costeros. Relativamente sedentario, con parejas que mantienen territorios durante todo el año.
