青头潜鸭是东亚特有的濒危潜鸭,繁殖于中国东北和西伯利亚东部,越冬于中国南部及东南亚。雄鸟头部绿黑色富有光泽,眼睛白色,胸部栗褐色;雌鸟褐色。由于湿地丧失和过度猎捕,种群数量已极度减少,被列为极危物种,估计野生数量不足1000只。

Males have dark glossy greenish-black head; chestnut breast; white flanks and undertail. White eye. Females brown with chestnut breast and pale face patch. White wing stripe in flight. Critically endangered East Asian species.

Habitat & Range

Breeds on lakes and rivers in boreal forests of eastern Siberia and northeastern China. Winters on freshwater lakes and wetlands in eastern and southeastern Asia. Critically Endangered; tiny remaining population.
