O pato de Baer é um pato mergulhador criticamente ameaçado nativo do nordeste da China e adjacente Rússia. Os machos têm cabeça e pescoço verdes com olhos brancos característicos. Cria em zonas húmidas de floresta inundada e hiberna no Sul e Sudeste da Ásia. As populações colapsaram nos últimos anos de números anteriores de milhares para apenas centenas, tornando-o um dos patos mais em perigo do mundo. As causas incluem caça, perda de habitat e perturbação.

Males have dark glossy greenish-black head; chestnut breast; white flanks and undertail. White eye. Females brown with chestnut breast and pale face patch. White wing stripe in flight. Critically endangered East Asian species.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on lakes and rivers in boreal forests of eastern Siberia and northeastern China. Winters on freshwater lakes and wetlands in eastern and southeastern Asia. Critically Endangered; tiny remaining population.

Breeds in Arctic Canada and Alaska; winters at sea off both US coasts and in the Great Lakes during migration.
