O pato-de-topete-cor-de-laranja é um pato pequeno e atraente da América do Sul. Os machos têm topete e supercílio laranja marcantes, cabeça cinzenta e corpo castanho-avermelhado com manchas brancas. Habita zonas húmidas de savana, campos inundados e rios de planície em grande parte do interior da América do Sul, do Brasil ao norte da Argentina e Bolívia. Muitas vezes é visto empoleirado em árvores acima da água. Vive em pares ou pequenos grupos ao longo do ano.

Males have gray head with black crown; pink breast with black spots; chestnut back; buff-white flanks with fine barring. White facial blaze. Females brown with pale supercilium and white spots on flanks.
Habitat & Range
Subtropical forests, gallery woodlands, and wooded wetland margins in Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and northeastern Argentina. Nests in tree hollows near water. Requires forested streams and rivers.

Breeds in the southern Palearctic from the Iberian Peninsula to Central Asia; winters mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.
