O ganso-de-testa-branca é um ganso cinzento médio com uma característica faixa branca na frente da cabeça e barras pretas irregulares no ventre. Tem distribuição circumolar na tundra ártica onde cria, hibernando mais ao sul. As duas subespécies principais diferem no tamanho do bico e hibernam em diferentes regiões.
