A perdiz mais caçada da Europa, pertencente à família Phasianidae. A Perdiz-vermelha (Alectoris rufa) habita campos agrícolas abertos, vinhedos, matagais e encostas com pedras no sudoeste da Europa. Mede aproximadamente 33-36 cm. Caracterizada pelo bico vermelho brilhante, colar preto e branco, e flancos barrados. Nativa da Espanha, Portugal, França e Itália; introduzida na Grã-Bretanha. Alimenta-se de sementes, insetos e plantas. As populações têm declinado em partes da Europa devido a mudanças agrícolas. Classificada como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.
