The IUCN has listed the Common Myna (Acridotheres tristis) among the hundred worst invasive species in the world. Native to South Asia, it has been introduced across the tropics, where it competes aggressively with native birds for nest cavities. A brown body, glossy black hood, yellow bill, bare yellow skin behind the eye and yellow legs mark the adult; white wing panels flash in flight. The species is one of the most successful avian colonisers of urban environments, thriving in cities, farmland and open woodland in close association with people. Its voice mixes cackling chatter with melodious whistling, and it is an accomplished mimic. Adults measure about 25 cm and 120 g. Across its overall range the Red List rates it Least Concern.
