El miná común ha sido nombrado una de las 100 especies invasoras más dañinas del mundo por la UICN. Originario del sur de Asia, ha sido introducido en regiones tropicales de todo el mundo, donde desplaza a las aves nativas en la competencia por las cavidades de anidación. Pese a su condición de invasora, el miná es un ave inteligente y carismática, capaz de imitar el habla humana.

Nativo del sur y el sudeste de Asia. Introducido e invasor en Australia, Sudáfrica, Oriente Medio y numerosas islas del Pacífico.
