El ganso cisne es un gran ganso asiático con el cuello largo y esbelto y un llamativo pico largo y negro con un prominente nódulo en la base. Es el antecesor del ganso doméstico chino. Cría en la estepa y el semidesierto de Asia central y Mongolia y migra al este de China para pasar el invierno. Su población ha disminuido por la degradación del hábitat y la caza.

Long neck with rich chestnut hindneck stripe. Forehead and crown dark brown; face and throat whitish. Upperparts grayish-brown; underparts pale. Long black bill. Pink legs. Ancestor of Chinese domestic geese.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on steppe lakes, rivers, and meadows in Mongolia, Siberia, and northeastern China. Winters in eastern China's Yangtze River floodplain and coastal wetlands. Wild populations critically small.
Distribución geográfica
Breeds in the tundra and boreal zones of Alaska and Canada; winters on the Pacific coast from British Columbia to California.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivore; grazes aquatic plants and grasses at wetland margins; takes invertebrates in spring; diet shifts with seasonal flooding.
