O ganso-cisne é um grande ganso do leste da Ásia com um pescoço longo e bico com tubérculo proeminente na base. É o ancestral dos gansos domésticos do leste da Ásia, incluindo o ganso chinês. Em estado selvagem, cria em zonas húmidas de floresta e pradaria na Rússia Oriental, Mongólia e China. Hiberna na China, Japão e Coreia. As populações selvagens são ameaçadas e têm sofrido declínios significativos devido à perda de habitat de hibernação e caça.

Long neck with rich chestnut hindneck stripe. Forehead and crown dark brown; face and throat whitish. Upperparts grayish-brown; underparts pale. Long black bill. Pink legs. Ancestor of Chinese domestic geese.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on steppe lakes, rivers, and meadows in Mongolia, Siberia, and northeastern China. Winters in eastern China's Yangtze River floodplain and coastal wetlands. Wild populations critically small.

Breeds in the tundra and boreal zones of Alaska and Canada; winters on the Pacific coast from British Columbia to California.

Herbivore; grazes aquatic plants and grasses at wetland margins; takes invertebrates in spring; diet shifts with seasonal flooding.
