El ansar piquicorto es un ganso mediano de color gris-marrón con el pico corto de color negro con una banda rosada y las patas de color rosado-naranja. Cría en Islandia, Groenlandia y las islas Svalbard y pasa el invierno en las costas y campos cultivados del noroeste de Europa, especialmente en el Reino Unido y los Países Bajos. Es una especie de cría colonial en zonas montañosas.

Dark brown head and neck. Back grayish-brown; underparts pale gray. Diagnostic pink feet and pink-banded dark bill. Pale blue-gray forewing in flight. Compact and round-headed. Sexes similar.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on tundra and cliff ledges in Greenland, Iceland, and Svalbard. Winters on agricultural fields, saltmarshes, and estuaries in Scotland, England, Netherlands, and Denmark.

Breeds on Arctic and sub-Arctic tundra ponds across North America; winters on both US coasts and Gulf Coast estuaries.

Grazes grasses and aquatic plants near rivers; takes invertebrates in breeding season; nomadic in response to seasonal flooding.
