How to Tell Them Apart
Höckerschwan
All-white plumage in adults. Cygnets are grey-brown, gradually whitening over the first year. Graceful S-curved neck posture is distinctive.

Trotz seines englischen Namens („Mute Swan“, stummer Schwan) ist er keineswegs stumm und gibt zischende, grunzende und schnaubende Laute von sich. Höckerschwäne gehen lebenslange Paarbindungen ein, und ihre aggressive Verteidigung des Brutreviers ist bekannt.

Der Prachtstaffelschwanz ist einer der beliebtesten und bekanntesten Vögel Australiens; brütende Männchen tragen ein spektakuläres violett-blaues Gefieder. Diese winzigen Vögel leben in kooperativen Familiengruppen, in denen Helfer dem Brutpaar bei der Aufzucht der Jungen zur Seite stehen. Männchen pflücken gelbe Blütenblätter und überreichen sie den Weibchen im Rahmen der Balz.
