How to Tell Them Apart
Stockente
Breeding males have an iridescent green head, white neck ring, chestnut breast, and grey body. Females are mottled brown. Both sexes show a blue speculum bordered by white.

Die Stockente ist die Stammform der meisten Hausentenrassen und die häufigste und am weitesten verbreitete Schwimmente der Welt. Erpel zeigen aufwendige Balzrituale, darunter Kopfnicken und pfeifend-grunzende Rufe. Stockenten sind äußerst anpassungsfähig und gedeihen sowohl in der Wildnis als auch in städtischen Lebensräumen.

Der Sekretär ist der einzige Greifvogel, der überwiegend zu Fuß jagt, indem er auf kranichartigen, bis zu 1,2 Meter langen Beinen durch die Graslandschaften schreitet. Sein Name soll von den Schmuckfedern herrühren, die an Schreibfedern hinter dem Ohr eines Sekretärs erinnern. Die Art gilt aufgrund von Lebensraumverlust und Bestandsrückgang in weiten Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets als Stark gefährdet.
