How to Tell Them Apart
Annakolibri
Metallic bronze-green upperparts. Males have an iridescent rose-red crown and gorget. Females have green upperparts with grey underparts and a small red gorget patch.

About These Birds
Annakolibri
Der Annakolibri ist der häufigste Kolibri entlang der Pazifikküste und eine von nur drei Kolibriarten, die ganzjährig in den USA verweilen. Männchen zeigen spektakuläre Sturzflüge aus 40 Metern Höhe und fangen sich mit einem lauten, von den Schwanzfedern erzeugten Zwitschern ab. Nachts kann ihre Körpertemperatur nahezu auf Umgebungstemperatur absinken, um Energie zu sparen.
Trauerschwan
Der Trauerschwan galt Europäern, die glaubten, alle Schwäne seien weiß, einst als unmöglich, was ihn zu einem berühmten philosophischen Beispiel für das Scheitern induktiver Schlussfolgerungen machte. Er ist das Wappentier von Western Australia. Trauerschwäne gehen lebenslange Paarbindungen ein, und beide Elternteile teilen sich das Brüten und die Aufzucht der Jungvögel.
