O pato-pigmeu-verde-anão é um pequeno pato encontrado na Nova Guiné, ilhas adjacentes e norte da Austrália. Os machos têm dorso verde-escuro iridescente marcante com colar branco e ventre branco. Habita zonas húmidas tropicais, especialmente lagoas e lagos com vegetação aquática flutuante abundante como lírios de água. É o menor pato da Austrália. Nidifica em ocos de árvore. Tem uma distribuição mais restrita do que o pato-pigmeu-do-algodão relacionado.

Males have dark green head and neck with white cheek patch; dark back; white underparts; flanks gray-green with fine barring. Females duller with brown cap and white face. White wing bar in flight.
Habitat & Range
Lily-covered tropical freshwater billabongs, lagoons, and seasonal floodplains in New Guinea and the tropical Top End of the Northern Territory and Queensland, Australia. Highly dependent on aquatic vegetation.
