El pato enano australiano es un pequeño y vistoso pato endémico de Australia y Nueva Guinea, el macho de color verde iridiscente y blanco con la cabeza oscura. Habita en pantanos y estanques de agua dulce con abundantes lirios acuáticos y vegetación flotante en el norte de Australia y el sur de Nueva Guinea. Nidifica en huecos de árboles sobre el agua.

Males have dark green head and neck with white cheek patch; dark back; white underparts; flanks gray-green with fine barring. Females duller with brown cap and white face. White wing bar in flight.
Habitat & Range
Lily-covered tropical freshwater billabongs, lagoons, and seasonal floodplains in New Guinea and the tropical Top End of the Northern Territory and Queensland, Australia. Highly dependent on aquatic vegetation.
