O ostraceiro-negro australiano é uma espécie australiana de costas rochosas com plumagem completamente negra e bico vermelho brilhante. Habita em costas rochosas e recifes onde se alimenta de bivalves, lapas e outros invertebrados marinhos. Relativamente sedentário com pares que mantêm territórios costeiros durante todo o ano. Nidifica no solo perto de costas rochosas. A perturbação humana e a predação por mamíferos introduzidos ameaçam os seus ninhos.
