O cisne-coscoroba é um cisne incomum da América do Sul, o único membro do seu género. Ao contrário dos verdadeiros cisnes, não tem pescoço tão longo e assemelha-se mais a um ganso grande. Tem plumagem branca com pontas das asas pretas e bico e pernas vermelhas. Cria em zonas húmidas da Patagónia, Terra do Fogo e adjacentes e hiberna no norte da Argentina, Uruguai e sul do Brasil. O seu apelo sonoro é o nome 'cos-cor-o-ba' que lhe deu o nome.

Entirely white plumage except black wingtips visible in flight. Bright red bill and red legs and feet. Red eye-ring. More goose-like than true swans. Juvenile has brownish wash. Sexes similar.
Habitat & Range
Freshwater lakes, marshes, lagoons, and flooded grasslands from southern Brazil through Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina to Tierra del Fuego. Partially migratory; moves northward in winter. Nests in reedy margins.
