El coscorobo es un cisne blanco pequeño de América del Sur con el pico y las patas de color rojo-naranja. A pesar de su aspecto similar al de un cisne, no está estrechamente emparentado con los cisnes verdaderos; los estudios genéticos sugieren que su pariente más próximo es el ganso de Nueva Holanda de Australia. Habita en humedales de Chile, Argentina, Uruguay y sur de Brasil.

Entirely white plumage except black wingtips visible in flight. Bright red bill and red legs and feet. Red eye-ring. More goose-like than true swans. Juvenile has brownish wash. Sexes similar.
Habitat & Range
Freshwater lakes, marshes, lagoons, and flooded grasslands from southern Brazil through Uruguay, Chile, and Argentina to Tierra del Fuego. Partially migratory; moves northward in winter. Nests in reedy margins.
