O ganso-de-cabeça-cinza é um ganso médio andino e patagónico do sul da América do Sul. Tem uma cabeça cinzento-pálida característica que contrasta com o corpo castanho-ruivo e as barras pretas e brancas nos flancos. Habita prados e zonas húmidas andinas e patagónicas, migrando para elevações inferiores no inverno. É frequentemente visto em pares ou pequenos grupos. Como outros gansos-da-patagónia, os pares mantêm ligações de longa duração.

Gray head and neck contrast with chestnut breast and rufous-barred flanks. Back brown; belly white. White wing patch in flight with iridescent green speculum. Yellow-orange legs. Sexes similar but females smaller.
Habitat & Range
Temperate forests, forest clearings, and lake margins in southern Chile and Patagonian Argentina. Partially migratory; breeds in beech forest zones and winters on open grasslands farther north.
