O pato-da-austrália é um pato de tamanho médio endémico da Austrália. Os machos têm cabeça e pescoço marrom-acastanhados com crista pequena, corpo barrado e bico cinzento. As fêmeas são castanho mais pálido mosqueado. Habita áreas abertas com árvores, prados, pastagens e zonas húmidas. É frequentemente visto em campos cultivados e áreas perto de água. Nidifica em ocos de árvore. É um dos patos mais familiares e comuns no sudeste da Austrália.

Males have brownish head with short dark mane; gray body with fine vermiculations and chestnut breast spots. Females brown with white supercilium and white chin. Both show white speculum in flight. Australian.
Habitat & Range
Open woodland, grassland, parks, golf courses, and farmland near water across most of Australia. Nests in tree hollows up to 30m high. Grazes terrestrially. Highly adaptable to modified and urban environments.
