El pato australiano selvático es un pato terrestre peculiar endémico de Australia, donde vive principalmente en pastizales y bosques abiertos, alejado del agua más que otros patos. Tiene la cabeza y el cuello de color chocolate oscuro con un marrón veteado y crema en el cuerpo. Pasta hierba con el pico corto. Anida en huecos de árboles, a veces lejos del agua.

Males have brownish head with short dark mane; gray body with fine vermiculations and chestnut breast spots. Females brown with white supercilium and white chin. Both show white speculum in flight. Australian.
Habitat & Range
Open woodland, grassland, parks, golf courses, and farmland near water across most of Australia. Nests in tree hollows up to 30m high. Grazes terrestrially. Highly adaptable to modified and urban environments.
