A Marrequinha-comum (Anas crecca) é o menor pato mergulhador da Europa, pertencente à família Anatidae. Habita lagos, pantânos e lagoas em toda a Europa e Ásia, migrando para zonas temperadas e tropicais no inverno. Mede apenas 34-43 cm e pesa entre 200-400 g. Os machos têm cabeça marrom-avermelhada com faixa verde que vai do olho à nuca; as fêmeas têm plumagem malhada discreta. Alimenta-se de sementes, vegetação aquática e invertebrados. É uma das espécies de patos mais numerosas do Paleártico. Classificado como Pouco Preocupante pela UICN.

Plumagem
Males have chestnut head with iridescent green eye patch bordered cream. Gray body with horizontal white shoulder stripe. Cream and black undertail. Females mottled brown. Small and fast-flying. Iridescent green speculum.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on boreal and subarctic freshwater marshes, lakes, and bogs across Eurasia. Winters on freshwater lakes, estuaries, rice paddies, and coastal marshes from northwest Europe and Africa east to Southeast Asia.

Breeds in sub-Arctic and boreal Canada and Alaska; winters along the Pacific coast from Alaska to southern California.

Dives for molluscs, crustaceans, and aquatic invertebrates; diet dominated by hard-shelled prey in coastal and freshwater habitats.
