에티오피아에서 남아프리카에 이르는 사하라 이남 아프리카 개활 삼림과 사바나에 사는 중형 쏙독새(23-25 cm). 암호화된 회갈색 깃털과 밝은 목 고리가 특징이다. 야행성으로 비행 중 나방과 딱정벌레를 먹는다. 거주성 또는 단거리 철새다.
