El tarro crestudo es una especie casi extinguida y extremadamente rara originaria de Corea, China y posiblemente Japón. Solo se conocen tres pieles de museo y avistamientos muy ocasionales en estado salvaje; no ha sido confirmada desde los años 1970. Tenía plumaje negro, blanco y verde con una cresta verde en la cabeza. Las causas de su probable extinción incluyen la caza y la pérdida de hábitat.
