Acerca de
El pato colorado (unos 1,1 kg) es un pato buceador vistoso con la cabeza roja anaranjada esponjada del macho, el pico rojo, el cuerpo negro y los flancos blancos. Habita lagunas y lagos con abundante vegetación acuática en el sur de Europa y Asia central. A diferencia de otros patos buceadores, también pastorea en tierra y se alimenta de plantas acuáticas, semillas y moluscos. La hembra tiene la cabeza pardo grisácea con las mejillas cremas. Las poblaciones en el occidente de Europa han aumentado.

Males have rounded orange-rufous head with bright red bill; black breast, neck and undertail; white flanks; brown back. Females dark brown with pale cheeks. Bold white wing stripe in flight. Dimorphic.
Habitat & Range
Large freshwater and brackish lakes, reservoirs, river deltas, and coastal lagoons across southern Europe and Central Asia. Winters on large open water bodies in southern Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.
