Acerca de
El negrón careto es un pato marino de América del Norte en el que el macho es enteramente negro excepto por un parche blanco en la nuca y manchas blancas a ambos lados del pico multicolor. Cría en lagos interiores y estanques de bosques boreales y tundra, e inverna en costas marinas. Su hábitat marino es el océano Atlántico y el Pacífico.

Plumaje
Male is entirely glossy black except for white patches on forehead and nape; bill tricolored orange, red, and white with black spot. Female sooty-brown with two white facial patches.
Habitat & Range
Distribución geográfica
Breeds in boreal forests and tundra of northern North America. Winters along Pacific and Atlantic coasts south to Baja California and the Carolinas.
Diet & Feeding
Dives for molluscs, crustaceans, and herring spawn in coastal waters. Uses its distinctive swollen bill to pry shellfish from rocks.
