Acerca de
El negrón especulado es el mayor negrón europeo, con el macho de color negro con una mancha blanca bajo el ojo y espéculo blanco en el ala. Cría en bosques boreales y tundra de Europa y Asia, e inverna en costas marinas, especialmente en el mar Báltico y el Atlántico norte. Se alimenta principalmente de mejillones y otros mariscos en sus cuarteles de invierno.

Male is jet black overall with a small white teardrop below eye and white speculum visible in flight; yellow-sided bill with black knob at base. Female is dark brown with two whitish facial spots.
Habitat & Range
Distribución geográfica
Breeds in boreal forests of northern Europe and western Siberia. Winters on coasts of northwestern Europe, the Black Sea, and Caspian Sea.
Diet & Feeding
Dives for mussels, cockles, and crustaceans in coastal and brackish waters. Freshwater insects taken on breeding grounds.
