La pintada de Verreaux habita en los bosques del oeste de África, principalmente en Sierra Leona, Liberia y Costa de Marfil. Similar a otras pintadas con el plumaje oscuro punteado de blanco y rasgos faciales coloreados. Se alimenta en el suelo de semillas, frutas e invertebrados. La pérdida de bosques y la caza representan amenazas para esta especie de distribución restringida. Los detalles de su ecología son menos conocidos que los de sus parientes más comunes.

Dark grey-black body densely spotted white; bare blue-grey and red facial skin; distinctive curly black crest on crown; facial skin turquoise-blue; red wattles. Black curly crest separates from Helmeted Guineafowl.

Distribución geográfica
Resident in West Africa from Côte d'Ivoire to Nigeria. Found in forest, forest-savanna mosaic, and secondary growth.
Diet & Feeding
Omnivorous; forages in West African forests and savanna for invertebrates, seeds, and small fruits. Scratches ground in flocks.
