Acerca de
El pato islandés o porrón islandés es un pato buceador de América del Norte y el noroeste de Europa, muy similar al pato chillón pero con la cabeza de color más purpúreo en el macho. A diferencia del pato chillón, tiene un parche facial en forma de media luna. Habita en lagos de agua clara alimentados por manantiales y ríos limpios, donde se alimenta principalmente de invertebrados bentónicos.

Plumaje
Male has iridescent purple-black head with crescent-shaped white facial patch; white body with black scapulars bearing bold white spots. Female grey with brown head, white collar; head rounder than Common Goldeneye.
Habitat & Range
Distribución geográfica
Breeds in Iceland, western Canada, and locally the western United States. Winters on coasts and lakes of the Pacific Northwest and eastern Canada.
Diet & Feeding
Dives for crustaceans, aquatic insects, and molluscs in mountain lakes and coastal bays. Diet similar to Common Goldeneye.
