El pato bufón o porrón albeola es el pato buceador más pequeño de América del Norte. El macho tiene un llamativo parche blanco en la nuca de la cabeza negro-verde iridiscente. Cría en cavidades de árboles cerca de lagos y estanques boscosos en Norteamérica, siendo uno de los pocos patos que anidan en huecos de árboles. Inverna principalmente en costas marinas.
