El porrón pardo es un pequeño pato buceador con el macho de color castaño rojizo intenso con el ojo blanco. Habita en lagos, estanques y marismas con vegetación densa de juncos y espadañas en Europa, Asia y norte de África. Está clasificado como casi amenazado debido al drenaje de los humedales y la caza.
