El porrón americano o porrón de América es un pato buceador de América del Norte donde el macho tiene la cabeza y el cuello de color castaño rojizo intenso, el pecho negro y los flancos y el dorso gris. Muy similar al porrón europeo, habita en lagos y marismas del interior de Norteamérica. Su población ha sufrido declives notables por la degradación de los humedales de cría.
