Acerca de
El porrón menor es uno de los patos buceadores más abundantes de América del Norte. El macho tiene la cabeza y el cuello de color morado-negro brillante con los flancos blancos, y es muy similar al porrón bastardo, del que se diferencia por la cabeza redondeada y por no tener el color gris en el dorso. Inverna en masas de agua abiertas en costas y grandes lagos interiores.

Plumaje
Males have peaked purple-glossed black head; white flanks; black breast and undertail; gray back. Yellow eye. Smaller than Greater Scaup with peaked crown. Females dark brown with white face patch. White wing stripe shorter.
Habitat & Range
Breeds on boreal lakes, ponds, and wetlands in Canada and Alaska. Winters on large lakes, reservoirs, coastal bays, and freshwater across the southern United States, Mexico, and Central America. Often in large rafts.
