About These Birds
Elster
Die Elster zählt zu den intelligentesten Tieren der Erde und war das erste Nicht-Säugetier, dem eine Selbsterkennung im Spiegel nachgewiesen wurde. Diese dreisten Rabenvögel bauen kunstvolle, kuppelförmige Nester aus Zweigen und gelten als Liebhaber glänzender Gegenstände, wenngleich dieser Ruf möglicherweise übertrieben ist.
Sekretär
Der Sekretär ist der einzige Greifvogel, der überwiegend zu Fuß jagt, indem er auf kranichartigen, bis zu 1,2 Meter langen Beinen durch die Graslandschaften schreitet. Sein Name soll von den Schmuckfedern herrühren, die an Schreibfedern hinter dem Ohr eines Sekretärs erinnern. Die Art gilt aufgrund von Lebensraumverlust und Bestandsrückgang in weiten Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets als Stark gefährdet.
