Die Nachtigall gilt als einer der begabtesten Sänger der Vogelwelt und hat Dichter von Homer bis Keats inspiriert. Männchen singen komplexe Strophen mit über 250 verschiedenen Typen, oft nachts während der Brutzeit. Trotz ihres berühmten Gesangs ist die Nachtigall unscheinbar gefärbt und hält sich verborgen im dichten Unterholz auf.

Der Sekretär ist der einzige Greifvogel, der überwiegend zu Fuß jagt, indem er auf kranichartigen, bis zu 1,2 Meter langen Beinen durch die Graslandschaften schreitet. Sein Name soll von den Schmuckfedern herrühren, die an Schreibfedern hinter dem Ohr eines Sekretärs erinnern. Die Art gilt aufgrund von Lebensraumverlust und Bestandsrückgang in weiten Teilen ihres Verbreitungsgebiets als Stark gefährdet.
