Der Blauhäher ist ein mutiges, intelligentes Mitglied der Rabenvögel, bekannt für sein auffälliges Gefieder und seine lauten Rufe. Als wichtiger Verbreiter von Eichen versteckt er jeden Herbst Tausende Eicheln. Zu seinem komplexen Sozialverhalten gehört das Nachahmen von Bussardrufen, um andere Vögel von Futterstellen zu vertreiben.

Der Sekretär ist der einzige Greifvogel, der überwiegend zu Fuß jagt, indem er auf kranichartigen, bis zu 1,2 Meter langen Beinen durch die Graslandschaften schreitet. Sein Name soll von den Schmuckfedern herrühren, die an Schreibfedern hinter dem Ohr eines Sekretärs erinnern.
