A small grouse (~335 g) of family Phasianidae, similar to Hazel Grouse but with more chestnut tones. Endemic to montane forests of central China, including Gansu, Sichuan, and Qinghai. Inhabits dense broadleaved and coniferous montane forest at 1,500–4,000 m. Feeds on seeds, buds, and berries. Near Threatened due to restricted range, logging pressure, and limited population data.
