Inhabits subtropical and lower montane forests in northeastern India, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Forages secretively on the forest floor for seeds and invertebrates in dense bamboo and undergrowth. Least Concern; widespread in the eastern Himalayan foothills and Assam region.
