A large galliform (~4.3 kg) of family Phasianidae, with spectacular iridescent blue-green and bronze plumage and orange-blue eye spots on the tail. Endemic to the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico, Belize, and northern Guatemala. Inhabits tropical forests and forest edges. Feeds on seeds, berries, and invertebrates. Near Threatened due to hunting and deforestation in the Mesoamerican lowlands.
