Habitat Comparison
Dwarf Cassowary
Dense montane rainforest and cloud forest at 600–3,300 m on New Guinea. Forages on the forest floor among root tangles and dense understorey. Avoids lowland and heavily disturbed forest.
Northern Cassowary
Lowland and foothill rainforest, swamp forest edges, and secondary growth up to 600 m in northern and western New Guinea. Forages along forest streams and near fruiting trees. Avoids heavily disturbed areas.
