O pato-dos-espelhos é um pato pequeno endémico do sul do Chile e da Argentina. Os machos têm plumagem castanho-escuro com espelhos alares brancos e verdes característicos. Habita rios, lagos e zonas húmidas costeiras nas florestas temperadas patagónicas. É uma espécie pouco conhecida e pouco estudada. É classificado como quase ameaçado devido ao declínio da qualidade e disponibilidade do habitat. É um residente permanente e não migratório do extremo sul da América do Sul.

Dark brown body with fine pale speckling. Distinctive white 'spectacle' rings around eyes. Iridescent greenish-bronze speculum. Underparts pale buff-brown. Bill grayish; legs orange. Andean and Patagonian streams.
Habitat & Range
Clear fast-flowing rivers and streams in temperate forest from central Chile and adjacent Argentina south to Tierra del Fuego. Requires cold turbulent mountain rivers with riparian forest. Avoids slow or muddy water.
