O pato-de-crista é um pato grande e incomum encontrado na África, Ásia do Sul e parte da América do Sul. Os machos têm um grande tubérculo negro na base do bico durante a reprodução. A plumagem tem o dorso negro brilhante iridescente e ventre branco. Os flancos variam entre espécies africanas e sul-asiáticas. Habita zonas húmidas tropicais, rios e arrozais. Empoleira-se frequentemente em árvores e nidifica em ocos de árvore.

Males have white head with black spots; iridescent dark blue-black back and wings; white underparts with gray flanks. Large black fleshy knob atop bill. Females smaller, brown, and lack the knob. African species.
Habitat & Range
Freshwater lakes, marshes, floodplains, and forested wetlands across sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia from India to southern China. Nests in large tree hollows near water.
