O pato-pigmeu-do-algodão é um pequeno pato encontrado no subcontinente indiano, sudeste da Ásia e Austrália. Os machos têm a plumagem mais branca do que a maioria dos patos com barras escuras no peito e dorso esverdeado brilhante. Habita lagos, tanques e zonas húmidas de água doce com vegetação flutuante como lírios de água. Nidifica frequentemente em ocos de árvore. É o menor pato australiano. Pode ser encontrado em zonas húmidas urbanas e campos de arroz inundados.

Males white below and white-faced with dark green crown and collar; black back with iridescent green gloss; white wing bar conspicuous in flight. Females brown-gray with pale supercilium. Tiny; perches in trees.
Habitat & Range
Freshwater lakes, ponds, slow rivers, and rice paddies with aquatic vegetation from India east through Southeast Asia, China, and New Guinea to northern and eastern Australia. Nests in tree holes near water.
