O painho-de-Matsudaira é um pequeno petrel-das-tempestades completamente negro do Pacífico norte. Nidifica nas ilhas Bonin (Ogasawara) e nas ilhas Vulcânicas do Japão. Procura alimento no Pacífico tropical. As manchas brancas nas asas são uma característica útil para a identificação. A predação por ratos e aves de capoeira ferais ameaça as colónias de cria.
