O pato do Pacífico é um pato dabbling de tamanho médio amplamente distribuído na Oceânia, incluindo Austrália, Nova Zelândia, Nova Guiné e numerosas ilhas do Pacífico. Apresenta uma plumagem castanha mosqueada com uma faixa ocular escura proeminente. É um dos patos mais comuns e familiares da Austrália e Nova Zelândia. Habita uma grande variedade de habitats aquáticos, desde lagoas de zonas húmidas a estuários costeiros.

Brownish-black body with pale buff feather edges giving scaly appearance. Bold pale buff supercilium and dark eye-stripe and crown stripe on paler face. Iridescent green speculum. Gray bill; orange legs. Sexes similar.
Habitat & Range
Freshwater and brackish wetlands across Australasia and the Pacific Islands, from freshwater lakes and rivers to coastal estuaries, mangroves, and irrigated agricultural areas. Highly adaptable to human-modified landscapes.
