O pato-de-campbell é um pato dabbling criticamente ameaçado endémico da Ilha Campbell, um território subantártico da Nova Zelândia. Quase foi extinto pelos ratos introduzidos que predam ninhos e filhotes. Após a bem-sucedida erradicação dos ratos da ilha nos anos 2000, as populações recuperaram. É pequeno e compacto com plumagem castanho-mosqueada. Habita rios, riachos e zonas húmidas costeiras na ilha. Representa um dos sucessos de conservação mais notáveis de pássaros insulares.

Very dark brown plumage; males have iridescent green head gloss and white eye-ring. Females dark brown with white eye-ring. Flightless; tiny vestigial wings. Recovered from near-extinction on Campbell Island, New Zealand.
Habitat & Range
Restricted to Campbell Island and Dent Island in the subantarctic New Zealand group. Dense tussock grassland, rocky shores, and freshwater streams. Nocturnal or crepuscular. Highly sedentary.

Breeds in sub-Arctic freshwater lakes of Canada; winters along the Pacific coast from Alaska to Baja California.
