How to Tell Them Apart
Eastern Bluebird
Males are vivid royal blue above with a rusty-red breast and white belly. Females are grey-blue with a paler rust breast.

동부파랑새는 북미에서 행복의 상징으로 사랑받는 새이다. 한때 농약과 집 짓기 경쟁으로 급감했지만, 둥지 박스 설치 운동 덕분에 개체군이 크게 회복되었다. 수컷은 짙은 파란 윗면과 녹슨 붉은 가슴을 자랑한다.

가장 잘 알려진 야생 오리로 체장 50–65cm이며, 수컷은 광택 있는 녹색 머리와 노란 부리, 자주빛 갈색 가슴, 흰색 목 고리를 갖는다. 북반구 전역과 호주에 귀화하여 온대 내지 아열대 습지, 호수, 강, 도시 공원에 서식한다. 잡식성으로 식물, 곤충, 작은 어류를 먹는다. 관심 필요 종이다.
